Leila Major (b. 2003) is a San Francisco based interdisciplinary artist and youth arts educator, creating multi-media work that explores identity, her personal mythology, and ancestry. Through a process of traversing the internal depths and translating the energy found into physical media, she creates bold, dreamlike paintings, photos, assemblages, and collages that encapsulate those essences. Moved by a sense of connection to the unseen forces that influence earthly matters, Major views herself and her work as a vessel for something greater to be expressed. She creates work as an invitation to integrate the unconscious symbols that allow us to interpret the nuances of being and existence. She holds a BA in Fine Arts with a Museum Studies Minor from the University of San Francisco. Major has exhibited at the De Young Museum, Southern Exposure, and the University of San Francisco’s Thacher Gallery.
